Overview
To get federal funding through the Section 5310 program, the MPO must create a Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Plan, or Coordinated Transportation Plan. This plan aims to address the transportation challenges faced by older adults, people with low incomes, and individuals with disabilities by uniting social service providers, transportation agencies, and community members to identify and solve these issues. In regions like Southern Nevada—where homes, jobs, and services are spread out and roads prioritize fast car travel over safe, accessible mobility—these groups often struggle to get around, especially if they lack the resources or abilities to drive, making daily transportation a significant barrier.
When reviewing the 2020 Coordinated Plan, it’s clear that several challenges facing the community have worsened, though the root issues remain the same. Because of this, the stakeholder advisory committee has decided to move forward with some of the ideas from the 2020 plan (Ideas 1-13), along with one new idea based on community feedback. The committee will focus on these ideas over the next four years to help improve mobility for the community.
