Overview

In compliance with Federal law (Title 23 CFR Section 450.334), an annual report must be published listing all transportation projects funded by the federal government in the previous year. This allows the public to see where federal funds are being used. This list is called the Annual Listing of Federally Obligated Projects.

The “Annual Listing of Federally Obligated Projects” is a report that shows all the transportation projects in Southern Nevada that got federal funding during the 2022 fiscal year (from October 2021 to September 2022).

When we say a project is “obligated,” it means the federal government has promised to pay or reimburse part of the project’s costs. The report lists these projects that are being financially supported by the government, and it’s put together by the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).

Development Process

Every four years, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) creates a 20-year plan called the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). This plan outlines how the region’s transportation system will grow to keep up with a growing population. The latest plan, Let’s Go 2050, started in Federal Fiscal Year 2022. But the RTP isn’t just a list of ideas—it has to follow strict rules. It must be “fiscally constrained,” meaning only projects that can be funded with available money are included. The projects also have to meet air quality standards to qualify for federal funding.

The RTC also makes sure the public has a voice in the process by holding meetings and offering ways to give feedback. So, the federally funded projects in this report are part of a larger plan that’s been carefully developed with public input, budget considerations, and environmental rules in mind.
